Some days it doesn't matter how well you prepare, it just goes wrong.
Being prepared is not enough. If a mechanic comes with the best toolbox available but pays no attention to the garage in which he works, things will almost certainly go wrong. A teacher with the best resources and intentions will not succeed unless you give classroom management due attention.
This course will provide you with answers to get your classroom management up to scratch.
This course is the initial orientation course in the Surviving and Thriving trilogy. Course instructor, Bob Brandis, outlines the important distinction between a relief teaching classroom and other classrooms, why different classroom management strategies are needed and the three key elements of classroom management in this context.
The booklet, 'How to Survive and Thrive in the Relief Teaching Classroom' is available to support this course and is available on completion of the course

I really enjoyed the
Survive and Thrive
modules, Bob. I feel very confident with managing the younger children but not so confident with how to manage older students. The
Survive and Thrive
modules have really helped me to understand how to manage older students. Thank you.

This course provides teachers with a no-nonsense approach to classroom management. The strategies discussed work toward the outcome of improved learning for all students in your classroom. This course empowers teachers to manage challenging behaviours and turn them into positive learning opportunities for everyone involved.
This course has provided me with strategies that will not only diffuse challenging behaviours but help those misbehaving students make the most of their opportunity to learn.

I found your
Survive and Thrive
course super useful. So much info I have never heard before! The course is an engaging, supportive and clear set of modules that apply directly to the relief teacher, particularly in difficult settings. This course is full of useful information and specifies how you can put the knowledge into action.
Look forward to completing some more courses and up-skilling myself to be better prepared for those challenging groups.

I completed the SURVIVE AND THRIVE course Sept 2018.
For me, the best part was it was the Remediation strategy, particularly the way it clarified the successful way that consequences can be incorporated into classroom management. This was so relevant to relief teaching, that I will recommend it to other relief teachers.
With Education QLD since 1973;
A teacher for over 40 years;
32 of those 40 years were as a principal;
Retired from FT work and became a relief teacher because he enjoyed it!
Bob Brandis has taught every class from Prep to Y12, in small country to large city schools throughout Queensland.
He has professionally supported more teachers than he can count through his guidance, resources, advice and professionalism. Hundreds of teachers, both in Australia and overseas, have benefited from Bob's practical and down-to-earth training content and approach.
Bob developed the content of this course to help give relief teachers the best practical information and support. Its contents still remain as practical and relevant today as it was when first created.
